Dr. Lima-Filho  is Assistant Provost for Undergraduate Studies and the Executive Director of the Math Learning Center. A native of Brazil, Dr. Lima-Filho is a professor in the Department of Mathematics. He earned his Ph.D. in mathematics at Stony Brook University in 1989, and came to Texas A&M University in 1993 following a year-long visiting research appointment at Princeton’s Institute for Advanced Study and a post-doctoral appointment at the University of Chicago. Dr. Lima-Filho is member of the American Mathematical Society and has held visiting research appointments at Stanford University; IHES (Institute des Hautes Etudes Scientifiques), France; Maxwell Institute, Scotland; Osnabrück Universität, Germany; IST (Instituto Superior Técnico) at the Univ. of Lisbon, Portugal; and at the CIMAT and UNAM, Mexico.

Dr. Lima-Filho has served as associate dean for international programs in the College of Science where he coordinated international operations, including facilitating agreements between the college and foreign institutions, coordinating dual-degree program development, and spearheading educational initiatives and global learning opportunities for students and faculty. In the Department of Mathematics, Dr. Lima-Filho served as the graduate director for six years, and as the associate head of operations and undergraduate programs for eight years.
